Alstom's advantage in railway construction agrees with the need of China's leaping development of railway, said Philippe Mellier, president of the transport sector of France's Alstom in an interview in Beijing on April 1.
Mr. Mellier's visit to China aims specially at exchanges with China's railway counterparts on extensive cooperations.
Talking about the prospects of cooperation with China, he said that France and China have strong complementary advantage in three aspects. First, mature high-speed railway technology. Currently there are over 450 trains manufactured by Alstom running at 300 to 350 kilometers per hour put into commercial operation worldwide. Second, Alstom is the world's only enterprise that has provided railway products to 12 countries. Third, Alstom has had 55 years' cooperation with China. An agreement of technique transfer was reached last year between Alstom and Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., which is based in northeast China's Changchun Province.
Mellier said he was encouraged by China's initiating the construction of high-speed railway because it is a good solution for transportation bottleneck and a good way to promote the sustainable growth of the social economy. Alstom has made a long-term pledge to China that it will continue to be a reliable partner in China's railway construction.
