Gas outburst kills 1, traps 22 in Chongqing coal mine

One miner was killed and 22 others were trapped in a coal mine gas outburst in Chongqing municipality, southwest China, Tuesday afternoon, local work safety authorities said.

The accident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. at a coal mine of the Tianfu Mining Company in Hechuan, a city under the jurisdiction of Chongqing.

Rescue work is under way, said work safety officials.
