Engaging itself in international security cooperation, China intends to assure the world of a peaceful rise, scholars attending a conference on China and India in Singapore said on Wednesday.
Xu Xin, national security fellow of Olin Institute for Strategic Studies of Harvard University, observed three sets of security interests which China's security policy addresses, namely, state sovereignty and territorial integrity, domestic development and stability, as well as international stability and peace.
Quoting China's new security concept as "mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and coordination", Jia Qingguo, professor and associate dean of the School of International Studies of Peking University, noted that China has increased its support to multilateral cooperation at both the international and regional levels.
Apart from subscribing to international agreements and covenants to assume international responsibilities, Jia said, China has exerted great efforts to improve security relations with its neighbors, which is partly manifested in the conclusion of several border agreements.
"Peace, harmony, cultural and political diversity, common development and rule of law, these are the goals and objectives the Chinese government tells the world that it wishes to promote," Jia added.
