font size

Beijing will start constructing its first SOS children village at Huangcunzhen, Daxing district. The village will be able to foster 120 orphans and equipped with mom apartments. The SOS children village to be jointly built by Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau and SOS Kinderdorf International has a total investment of 45.52 million yuan with a construction area of 9.205 square meters. It will become the tenth SOS children village in China.

The land and construction funds to be used by the Beijing SOS children village are provided by the Beijing government and the SOS Kinderdorf International respectively. SOS children village was first built in 1949 to foster healthy orphans who have lost parents with no relatives to take care of them. Managed in the form of family each children village has ten or so families and each family adopts 7 to 9 orphans to be taken care of by an employed single female as mom.

China has built 9 SOS children villages and their supporting facilities since 1984 in places such as Tianjin and Shandong.
