The Zimbabwean police have arrested an opposition lawmaker accused of organizing violent protests against the results of last Thursday's parliamentary elections, local media reported on Friday.
Police seized Nelson Chamisa over Monday's march in Harare, where protesters allegedly smashed shop windows and harassed bystanders.
Officials detained at least two youths following the protests which were met with force by the police.
The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has denied calling the action by marchers who handed out pamphlets criticizing the results of parliamentary elections.
Opposition leaders have rejected the outcome over alleged voting irregularities and are calling for a new poll.
The MDC points to conflicting figures of the actual number of voters provided by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission as evidence of massive rigging.
The ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), which has been ruling since the country won independence in 1980 from Britain, claimed a major victory in last Thursday's vote, winning a two-thirds majority in the legislature.
