Lien Chan remains firm on visit to Chinese mainlandThe Taiwan authority has stepped on the brake to stop the "mainland fever" by announcing "seven-point conclusion". Cheng Li-wen, spokesperson of the KMT said she believed the authority will employ all means to impede KMT chairman Lien Chan's "peaceful tour" to the mainland, but the trip to mainland will remain unchanged and Lien will set out as scheduled as soon as possible. Chiang Pin-kun and Lien Chan's visit to mainland are based on consensus of the Economic Development Advisory Conference and are in pursuit of Taiwan people's interest. The authority should contribute to peace between Chinese mainland and Taiwan, rather than impede opposition's efforts for peace by bullying and attacking. The DPP's mentality seems to have brought Taiwan back to the state of "white terror", which is a great moving backward on democracy, said Cheng. Cheng urged the DPP not to be so narrow-mind and considering containing the opposition in every aspect. When asked to comment on authority's probable labeling of his visit to mainland as illegal, Lien answered, "Tell the DPP government no kidding anymore." Earlier Lien Chan said he is willing to accept mainland's invitation and has requested his aides to study details for the visit. Lien Chan was born in Xi'an and attended elementary school there. In an interview with Taiwan reporters, the vice Governor of Shaanxi Province Zhao zhengyong expressed delight for Lien Chan's visit to the mainland. He said the people of Shaanxi will warmly receive Mr. Lien should he pays a visit to Shaanxi. By People's Daily Online |
