The Bangladeshi government reaffirmed adherence to the "one-China policy," opposing Taiwan's membership in any international organization, according to a joint communique issued by the two governments Friday in Dhaka.
The communique says the Bangladeshi side reiterated that there is only one China, and that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory.
Bangladesh opposes Taiwan's membership in any international and regional organizations open to sovereign countries only, and fully supports China's peaceful reunification.
It also says the Chinese side reiterated its respect for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, as well as its support for Bangladesh's efforts to develop national economy.
The two sides believed that strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the armed forces and conducting cooperation in public security and justice were significant components of the bilateral relations. Both sides agreed to conduct further exchanges and cooperation in these areas, according to the communique.
It says the Chinese side appreciated Bangladesh's active efforts to promote regional cooperation in South Asia. The Bangladeshi side supported China's willingness to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. The two sides believed that the level of cooperation within the Forum on Regional Economic Cooperation among BCIM should be further elevated and both sides will offer more support and cooperation to the Forum.
It notes the two sides were satisfied with their effective and efficient cooperation in international and regional affairs, and undertook to further enhance cooperation and coordination in the United Nations and other multinational fora and make concerted efforts to promote peace and development at both regional and international levels.
The communique says both sides were committed to fight against terrorism and transnational crime, and agreed to share information, exchange intelligence and cooperation in law enforcement in this field in order to ensure peace and stability in the region.
It notes Bangladesh deeply appreciates China's support for Bangladesh's membership in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
