China sets timetable for building a recyclable economy
font size

China is expected to build a recyclable economy in 50 years with human beings, nature and the society all in harmony, said Li Zhenjing, an expert with the State Development and Reform Commission's Macro-Economic Research Institute, Sunday.

According to a report wrote by the institute, in 50 years, the main indices of a recyclable economy, such as productivity of resources and output coefficient, environment, and sustainable development, should reach advanced levels.

In the past decade, China has seen fast economic growth coupled with environmental and energy crises.

This prompted China to rethink its economic development mode, which is running at the expense of the environment and high energy resource consumption. China is pushing for the development of a recyclable economy, which stresses clean production and porcess industrial pollutants more efficiently.

Li said to achieve this goal three things must be done. From 2005 to 2010, the country must build a legal system and supporting system. From 2010 to 2020, economic and social systems with characteristics of recyclable economy must be built. From 2021 to 2050, a recyclable society with human beings, nature and society all in harmony must be built.
