Hainan becomes home of world's largest melamine plantDSM Melamine and China National Offshore Oil Corp Chemical Ltd has decided to start a joint venture melamine plant with annual output of 120,000 tons in Hainan Province, China. The construction of the plant is expected to complete in 2008. This is the largest ever melamine project in the world so far, said Yang Yexin, general manger of the CNOOC Chemical. Made of urea, melamine is poison-free, fire resistant and heat resistant. 95% of melamine in the world is used for production of thermosetting resin, which is widely used in automobile, electric appliance, high-grade dining wares, furniture, textiles and board.
