President Hu Jintao mourned the death of Zhang Tiezheng, a minister-level official who died of illness last month at the age of 95.
Other senior officials who expressed condolences include Zeng Qinghong, He Guoqiang and Wang Gang.
Zhang, a native of Liaoning Province, northeast China, joined the Communist Party of China-led revolution in 1933. He held a variety of positions in the armed forces and government at different levels.
He was an advisor of the Ministry of Power Industry until his retirement in 1982.
