Two UN peacekeepers detained in Uganda over sex scandal
font size

Two soldiers serving with the United Nations peacekeeping force in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) have been arrested in Uganda for having sex with a prostitute.

A police officer at Arua Central Police Station who preferred anonymity told Xinhua by telephone on Tuesday that the two were rescued from an angry mob on Saturday after they were found having sex in turn with a 19-year-old woman in a lodge in the northwestern Arua town.

The officer said that the two Nepalese soldiers recorded statements at Arua Police Station, saying that the woman had agreed to have sex for money.

He said that the soldiers were later released to the MONUC officials who came to the police station after the arrest.

The two soldiers had crossed into Uganda from Congo on pretext of buying fuels and supplies.
