Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with visiting Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Executive Secretary Vladimir Rushailo in Beijing Tuesday.
Tang said the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the CIS were working in the same region and share many advantages and favorable conditions for cooperation, pledging that China would support the cooperation between the two organization to jointly maintain the regional peace and stability.
"China attaches importance to ties with the CIS member countries and is expecting to see the organization play an active role in boosting the regional peace and economic prosperity," Tang said.
Rushailo briefed Tang on CIS work and the situation in the CIS regions. He said the CIS was now in an "optimizing phase" in its reform process and its member states would strengthen efforts to establish a unified economic space, crack down on terrorism, separatism, extremism and organizational crime and forge cooperation in humanitarian fields.
Rushailo said the CIS values the cooperation with other regional and international organizations and has been keeping a close eye on the SCO's development.
