Ren Zhengfei, Zhang Ziyi on Time 100 list
font size

CEO of Shenzhen-based Huawei Technologies Ren Zhengfei was named one of the world's most influential people by the Time magazine recently in its 100 list.

Ren, 61, is in the Builders and Titans category that contains only 20 names.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs and media magnate Rupert Murdoch are also on the list.

The Time magazine published the annual Time 100 list in its April 11 edition.

The magazine praised Ren for his extraordinary entrepreneurship.

Ren established Huawei Technologies in 1988 and is leading the company into a global giant like Cisco and Ericsson. Huawei's overseas sales surpassed US$2 billion last year and Ren expected the figure to double this year.

The company now ranks 22 in top 50 telecom suppliers. However, experts say its cut-rate prices mean profit margins are thin.

The other Chinese on the list is actress Zhang Ziyi, who starred in Hero, House of Flying Daggers and 2046.
