China pours huge investment in protecting Tibetan culture

As is learned from the press conference on Apr. 12, since the founding of Tibet Autonomous Region, China has invested a total of 630 million yuan in revitalizing traditional Tibetan ethnic culture.

Xin Gaosuo, deputy director of the Culture Department in Tibet Autonomous Region, noted that the autonomous region and seven cities across the Tibet have established the ethnic cultural heritage rescue leading group since the beginning of 1980s. By the end of last year, they have interviewed more than 10,000 Tibetan folk artists, collected 10,000-plus photos and more than 10,000 folk music, songs and ballads, and written materials more than 10 million words through systematic survey and search. Meanwhile, they have also published 1000-plus research paper on the traditional culture of Tibetan nationality, and 30 books on ethnic culture research.

Meanwhile, various relevant cultural departments have reported the "Tibetan Drama", a representative work of human oral and non-material cultural heritage, to the Ministry of Culture, and are now trying their best to make it be included into the scope of protection under the world cultural heritage.

Apart from that, Tibet Autonomous Region has listed some best folk arts with unique Tibetan characteristics, such as the Xianzi in Mangkang county, Changdu region, Guokai in Zhanang county, Shangnan region, Tibetan blanket in Jiangzi county, Rikaze region as well as the Xuan dance in Zhada county, Ali region, into the regional (provincial) ethnic folk cultural protection experimental project.
