font size

In Taiwan's Pingtung County, the late Chairman of the Strait Exchange Foundation, Koo Chen-fu, was buried on Wednesday.

His funeral procession started in the morning from Mount Hsiungkuang in Kaohsiung City. Koo was known to the world for committing himself to improving cross-straits relations.

He was a major influence behind the first-ever high-level, non-governmental talks between organizations from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. Koo and and his mainland counterpart Wang Daohan, President of the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, held the talks in Singapore in April 1993.

The event became known as the Wang-Koo meeting. The two met again in Shanghai in October 1998. Koo died of kidney failure in Taipei on January 3rd, at the age of 89.
