Two employees of Zimbabwe's Media and Information Commission (MIC), who admitted making illegal foreign currency deals with foreign journalists covering last month 's parliamentary election, have resigned.
MIC was quoted by the official news agency New Ziana on Thursday as saying that it had accepted the resignations from secretaries Linda Maseko and Lavender Masiyambiri, which came a day before they were expected to appear before a disciplinary panel.
"The Commission wishes to repeat that the transparency and integrity it requires in the conduct of those it regulates and serves must be demanded even more from those it employs to carry out its mandate," it said in a statement.
The charges arose after the two bought some foreign currency from two South African journalists seeking accreditation to cover the election.
MIC chairman Tafataona Mahoso said alert MIC officials detected the crime but could not determine the identity of the journalists.
Zimbabwe's monetary laws states that only registered institutions are allowed to trade in foreign currency.
Over 300 journalists have been accredited by the MIC to cover Zimbabwe's March 31 parliamentary poll in accordance with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
