Three bronze sculptures by the French sculptor Arman is on display in the French Cultural Center in Beijing Friday.
As part of activities of "The Year of France in China," the half-month exhibition includes "Music," made in 1984, "Music Power " in 1985 and "The Grand Discobolus" in 2001.
Cong Peihua, a painter and member of China Artists Association, said, "They reflect the multiple meaning of western contemporary art," he said.
Cheng Xindong, the show's initiator, said he is exploring the perfect relationship between the exhibition space and the artwork.
"It's a purely cultural activity here today," Cheng said.
Known for his "accumulations" of found objects, Arman is one of the foremost international modern artists and has had works acquired by important museums world-wide. His work was displayed in The National Museum of China and a residential complex in Beijing in late 2004.
After meeting Marcel Duchamp in New York in 1961 he started making his accumulations, abstract reconstruction of broken up objects such as paint tubes and musical instruments. He became an American citizen in 1973. He has received numerous honors on both sides of the Atlantic.
