Greek, Chinese legislators vow to strengthen cooperation
font size

Greek and Chinese legislators have pledged efforts to promote exchanges between their parliaments and boost cooperation between the two countries.

At a meeting on Friday with First Deputy President of the Greek Parliament Sotirios Chatzigakis, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China He Luli said the relations between the two countries have developed smoothly since the establishment of diplomatic ties, and the recent years have witnessed a constant progress of their cooperation in the fields of politics, trade and cultural exchanges.

The next Olympic Games to be held in Beijing in 2008 and the Shanghai International Expo in 2010 offer new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries and the prospects for their friendly cooperative relations are very promising, the Chinese legislator added.

Sotirios Chatzigakis, for his part, noted that Greece has paid a lot of attention to China's economic and social development, speaking highly of China's great economic achievement and the important role it has been playing in the international arena.

The two sides expressed their belief that exchanges between the two parliaments have an irreplaceable significance in pushing forward the bilateral ties.

The Chinese National People's Congress and the Greek Parliament would continue to boost their friendly exchanges, promote mutual understanding and work together for a closer cooperation in various fields between the two countries, they said.

The delegation from China's National People's Congress, which arrived here Tuesday for an official visit at the invitation of the Greek parliament, has also met with Greek Parliament President Anna Psarouda-Benaki.
