Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to meet US President George W. Bush in Washington on May 1 for talks over Mideast peace efforts, official Palestinians sources said Saturday.
Abbas will first head to Jordan and Egypt later Saturday to meet Jordanian King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to discuss with them the current situation in the Palestinian territories and his upcoming visit to the United States.
Meanwhile, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said two US envoys, David Welsh and Eliot Abrams, will arrive in the region to meet Abbas over arrangements for the latter's May visit to Washington.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon visited the United States last week and held talks with President Bush on a planned Israeli pullout from Gaza in July.
