Dutch gunman kills family members at home

A gunman was believed to have killed five people on Saturday in the Dutch town of Hilversum, some 20 kilometers southeast of Amsterdam, Dutch national radio reported Saturday evening.

The report said that a 46-year-old father gunned down his wife and their three children, then took his own life.

The house was in a working-class neighborhood of the town, the report said.

"It just happened, so the details are very unclear. I really know very little at this point, but I can say five people have probably been killed at a downtown family home," Police Spokeswoman Annet Bol was quoted as saying.

Hilversum is a satellite town of Amsterdam and home to Media Park, the headquarters of the national broadcasting company where the maverick politician Pim Fortuyn was shot and killed on the eve of the 2002 elections.

Police said that investigation into the cause of the killing is still under way.
