US and Mongolia's armed forces Sunday started a code-named "Haan Erel" joint sham battle in a region 65 kilometers west to Ulan Bator, the third time of its kind since 2003.

US 28th and 70th Marine Corps, 130 Mongolian soldiers took part in the joint action. The soldiers will practice mainly peacekeeping operations like patrolling, checking in and out.

The first sham battle of the two countries was conducted in 2003 and the joint action was conducted annually. The current one will end before this month.
