UN team visits conflict-affected areas in Nepal
font size

A UN team led by General Secretary Kofi Annan's special emissary Walter Keylin has visited two conflicted-affected areas in Nepal in recent days, Radio Nepal reported Monday.

The UN special team went to Naumule village of Dailekh districtin mid-western Nepal on Sunday on inspection visit in order to observe human rights situations there, as 50,000 local people have been displaced since the anti-government insurgency broke out in 1996.

"The delegation condemned the rebels for causing people to flee the villages," the state-run radio said.

Most of the people living in Tauli, Salleri and Naumule villages of Dailekh district have shifted to the district headquarters due to the anti-government guerrillas' violence.

A few days ago, the UN special team also made spot visits in Kapilvastu district in southwestern Nepal.
