Sanmen Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. , which undertakes China's first independent nuclear power construction, was unveiled in Sanmen County on April 17. It signifies that Sanmen nuclear power project, targeted enhancing China's innovation ability in nuclear power, has started in full swing in its firs phase.

As approved by the State Council, two million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor units will be installed for the project located in the first phase in the Maotoushan peninsula in Jiantiao Town of Sanmen County. State-of-the-art third-generation pressurized water reactor will be introduced through international bidding. The first-phase project is expected to be commercially perational around 2012.
