London offered tensof millions of dollars in new financial incentiveson Monday to boost its bid for the 2012 Summer Games.
A day after offering inducements to sports federations, London announced a package of financial support to athletes and national Olympic committees -- including free round-trip flights to all 10,500 competitors and thousands of team officials attending the games.
In addition, each of the 200 national committees would receive a50,000 US dollars "credit" toward the cost of using training facilities in Britain.
Athletes would get 100-dollar worth of free phone calls fromthe Olympic village, as well as free train travel throughout Britainafter the games. Athletes' families could stay for free with British families during the Olympics.
London bid leader Sebastian Coe said the package would "eliminate the traditional costs involved in sending and caring for athletes at the Olympic Games."
"These charters are designed to enhance the Olympic sporting and cultural experience for athletes and team officials participating at a London Games," he said.
"We have considered long and hard how to deliver the best experience for everyone who makes the Games the greatest show on earth."
On Sunday, London appealed directly to the internationalfederations, offering special hotel rates, price discounts,television exposure and other inducements.
London is competing against New York, Paris, Madrid and Moscow.The International Olympic Committee will pick the host city in Singapore on July 6.
The bid cities made presentations Sunday to thesportsfederations in the last major gathering in Berlin before the Singaporesession.
