Jordanian King Abdullah II said Jordan is keen to maintain border security with Iraq and to preventthe infiltration of terrorists into the country, the Jordan Times reported Tuesday.
King Abdullah made the remarks at a meeting with representatives of Iraqi media, saying that Jordan supports Iraqis in their efforts to overcome their difficult circumstances.
Jordan's historical and brotherly ties with Iraq "are too strongto be sabotaged," the king was quoted as saying.
"The Iraqi people's success in building a democratic Iraq that plays an active regional and international role is also Jordan's success, and restoring Iraq's security and stability is key to Jordan and the entire region," he added.
The media representatives, who arrived here Monday to meet with senior officials and their counterparts, said the visit enhanced their belief in Jordan as "the real backer of the Iraqi people."
