To strengthen air transportation safety, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has decided to launch a worldwide airport security auditing in June.
Specialized auditors for this mission are being trained, president of the Pacific Chapter of the Airport Council International (ACI) David J. Pang disclosed Tuesday while attending a symposium on airport security in Beijing.
At the Best Practice Symposium and Presidents' Forum jointly initiated by the Pacific Chapter of ACI and the Beijing Capital Airport Authority, Pang called on participants, including 130 experts and representatives from airport authorities of 13 countries, to have in-depth exchange on airport security evaluation and management.
Pang said that this comprehensive and first-ever auditing will bring important influence on the creditability, reputation and image of the world's airports.
Earlier this year, ICAO has promised to fully publish its auditing results and required all airports to establish an effective security management system by Nov. 24.
As the Chinese air industry has entered its best period, Pang hoped the auditing will facilitate the communication of mainland airports with their global peers and better integrate them with international practices.
Headquarterd in Geneva, Switzerland, ACI was established in 1991 and represents the interests of more than 1,500 airports in 160 countries and regions.
