Thanks to continuous improvement of employment situation, the employment number in Hong Kong has hit 3.354 mln, a new high in history.

In Q1 the employee number in Hong Kong had increased to 3.354 mln, but the unemployment rate was still around 6.1 percent. The service sector including import and export, entertainment and recreation, commerce and other services reported the biggest rise in employee number.

According to the Census and Statistics Department of HKSAR, the situation of short-term unemployment is dependent on extra job positions provided by overall economic growth. College graduates and students' entry of labor market in the summer vacation will in particular influence the short-term unemployment.

In March the Labor Department of the HKSAR received report of 36,000 vacant positions from private institutions, up 49.2 percent as against February. The Department has assisted 8,254 job seekers to find jobs.

In Q1 the cleaning service, transportation, entertainment and recreation industries witnessed rise of employment rate, which counteracted the rise of unemployment rate in retail and wholesale, construction and manufacturing industries.
