Schalke 04 made it through to the German Cup final after nipping a dramatic home victory over holders Werder Bremen on Tuesday, as goalkeeper Frank Rost saved three penalties before scoring the shootout winner.
The clash finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, 2-2 following extra-time, and Schalke won 5-4 with the penalty shootout.
Rost, a former German international and Bremen player, stopped penalties from Paul Stalteri and Tim Borowski to give his side two chances to win but Niels Oude Kamphuis and Ailton missed the target.
He made his third save after Fabian Ernst slipped on his run-up, and then stepped up himself to earn Schalke the winner.
Schalke now face the winners of Wednesday's match between Arminia Bielefeld and Bayern Munich in the Cup final in Berlin on May 28.
