Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas urged Israel not to postpone its Gaza pullout this summer, Israel's Channel II TV reported Wednesday.
Abbas told the channel in an interview that the evacuation should be implemented as immediately as possible.
It was reported that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was considering delaying the plan to mid-August, but the channel quoted officials closed to Sharon as saying a final decision has not been made yet.
An Israeli ministerial committee on Tuesday deferred a decision on a proposed three-week delay in the planned pullout.
The decision on whether to postpone the disengagement until Aug. 15 will probably be made after Sharon consults with defense officials on the impact of a three-week delay on those security forces slated to evacuate Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank.
Abbas told Channel II that the territories the Jewish settlers will leave are owned by the Palestinian people, so he urged Israel not to demolish homes and constructions in the settlements.
Meanwhile, Abbas said a series of Israeli-Palestinian meetings will be held sometime next week to coordinate efforts in the Israeli withdrawal.
"We are ready for all types of coordination," Abbas told a number of Israeli journalists at his office in the West Bank city of Ramallah Tuesday.
Abbas said he will meet with Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres soon to coordinate the implementation.
