Gu Xiulian, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), met Wednesday with visiting Austrian Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel's wife Krista Schuessel.

Krista Schuessel arrived here Tuesday night with her husband for a week-long official visit to China.

Gu, also president of the All-China Women's Federation, said China and Austria have conducted sound cooperation in various fields such as the economy, culture and education in recent years. Many Chinese students are learning music in Austria.

She also briefed the guests about the condition of China's women and children and the development of China's women organizations.
