S. Korea urges North back to talks
font size

South Korean Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister, Ban Ki-moon, has expressed serious concern about the suggestions that DPRK is reprocessing spent fuel rods from its nuclear reactor.

Ban Ki-moon told a press conference in Seoul that South Korea is closely watching activities at the North's Yongbyon nuclear reactor.

He says, if the stories are true, reprocessing the nuclear material is not in the interests of North Korea or the international community.

DPRK's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Han Song-ryol, recently declared that DPRK has shut down its nuclear reactor and plans to transfer the fuel to boost its "deterrence" against possible attacks.

The South Korean Foreign Minister also urged DPRK to return to the six-party talks.
