Hainan UnionPay and the Xisha Islands Commercial Workstation have cooperated to install electronic point-of-sale (POS) terminals in all stores and restaurants, realizing obstacle-free services by paying with credit cards on the entire islands reported Lin Qingmei with Xinhua New Agency in Haikou on April 20. According to an introduction, these are the southernmost POS terminals installed in China.

According to the director with the Xisha Islands Commercial Workstation, the residents on the islands must get to Hainan Island for withdrawing money and paying charges in the past. After installing the POS devices, residents only need to pay by credit cards on the islands when buying daily necessities or dining at restaurants, which will greatly facilitate the island residents to do shopping, enliven the economy on the islands and push forward the opening of the Xisha Islands tourism.

It is reported the Hainan UnionPay has also offered the services of paying cell-phone expenses by credit cards as requested, solving the difficult problem of paying phone charges on the islands.
