Authentication commission established on security of information products

With the establishment of an authentication commission in Beijing, China has started to tighten its security management of high-tech and information products.

"This specialized commission shoulders an important responsibility as new high-tech products play an increasingly vital role in China's exports," said director Li Changjiang of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine at the opening ceremony of the State Information Security Products Authentication and Management Commission here Tuesday.

Last year, mechanical, electrical and new high-tech products accounted for over half of China's total foreign trade, official statistics show..

The commission, set up as required by the State Council, China's Cabinet, is affiliated to the Certification and Accreditation Administration (CAA) and is comprised of members from eight central government departments including the ministries of Public Security, State Security and Information Industry, the State Secret Bureau and the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

CAA chairman Wang Fengqing told the China Quality Daily Wednesday that the security of information products has a direct impact on the safety and economic interests of China.

"A unified and standardized accreditation system must be established to facilitate the healthy growth of information industry and to better protect products China enjoys as independent intellectual property," Wang said.

He required the commission to consult all relevant departments and strive to conduct authentication fairly and rationally.
