Indonesia should learn from China's economic development: executive

Indonesia may learn from China's economic development in its efforts to boost growth and to recover from the bitter financial crisis that hit the country in 1997, a top Indonesian business executive said Thursday.

"China is the world phenomenon in the century, whose economy grows very rapidly," said Mohamad Hidayat, chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

Hidayat said he has visited China several times to get first- hand knowledge of how business runs in China, adding "I have learnt a lot."

Kadin would fully support the government to establish a strategic partnership with China so as to strengthen business-to- business relations between the two countries, Hidayat said on the sidelines of the Asian-African Business Summit.

He said Indonesia and China are expected to reach agreements on major economic areas, including infrastructure development and agriculture.
