China's Central Military Commission (CMC) held a meeting in Beijing recently, urging members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the army to earnestly participate in the educational campaign to maintain the advanced nature of CPC members.

The meeting, chaired by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, called on party members in the military to uphold the banner of the Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thoughts of the Three Represents, earnestly implement Jiang Zemin'

s thoughts on national defence and army construction, speed up the military reform with Chinese characteristics and prepare for military struggle.

CMC members said the whole military leadership should shoulder the historic mission, improve strategic perspectives for scoring new accomplishments of the army.

Members of the commission also said at the meeting to strengthen construction of the army by pushing forward ideological education and improving military training, in particular the fighting capability of the army in the information era.
