China offers US$2 mln worth of disaster relief to Indonesia
font size

China announced in Jakarta Thursday to provide another two million US dollars worth of cash and goods to assist the Indonesian Government in diaster-relief in earquake-hit areas.

Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai made the announcement upon arrival at the airport. Part of the goods was shipped in by the special plane of the Chinese President Hu Jintao, who arrived here Thursday for the Asia-Africa Summit, the 50th anniversary of the Bandung Conference and for a state visit to Indonesia.

Entrusted by Hu, Bo Xilai handed over the goods to the Indonesian government at the airport.

President Hu called Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyo after a strong earthquake on March 28 hit Indonesia. China subsequently announced to provide 500,000 US dollars as emergency disaster relief fund to Indonesia.

Earlier, the Chinese Government provided a total of 200 million yuan (about 24 million US dollars) as relief fund after the strong earthquake and tsunami hit Indonesia late last year.

China also sent medical teams consisting of about 100 medical workers to Indonesia, and the Chinese people donated more than 100 million yuan for the worst disaster in years, marking the largest international rescue effort in China's history.
