font size

According to the report by People's Daily, since 11 January 2000 the total amount of patent applications that China accepted came to reach one million cases it has witnessed the total patent applications to break through two millions on 17 March, 2004. As against the first one million cases within a span of 15 years the second one million cases of patent application used only a bit over 4 years. This is what the reporter has learned of at the press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council in Beijing.

As learned of, since China started to put into practice the patent rights on 1 April 1985, a relatively complete and independent system for patent right examination has been built up mainly by relying on own efforts within a relatively short time. From 1 April 1985 to the end of 2004, the State Bureau for Intellectual Property Rights has accepted and handled a total of 2.284925 cases, an annual average increase of 18.9 percent, in which the domestic application accounted for 1.874358 cases and the foreign application took up 410567 cases, a respective 82 and 18 percent from among the total cases

As introduced by Wang Ziqiang, director of the department for copyright administration of the State Copyright Administration, the copyright for works of writings, audio and visual products will find their collective administrative organizations in China. At present, the Chinese Writers' Association and China Copyright Protection Center are now making ready to set up an association for the protection of copyrights while the Chinese Audio and Visual Association is also making preparation for setting up an organization for a collective administration of the audio-visual products in China. If conditions are ripe the two collective administrative organizations will enter into operation either this year or next year. From a short term point of view, China is likely to set up an organization for collective administration of movie and fine arts.
