American shot dead in Honduras
font size

A US citizen and a Honduran were shot dead by gunmen in police uniforms at a gymnasium in Honduras' northern city of San Pedro Sula, reports from the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa said Saturday.

Honduras' Vice Security Minister Armando Calidonio said the motive behind the killing Friday night is not known. The attackers escaped aboard a waiting vehicle outside the gymnasium.

The victims were identified as US citizen Ronald Helliwin, 24, and Honduran Omar Alvares, 25.

Witnesses said the gunmen argued and struggled with Helliwin before opening fire at him and the Honduran who tried to defend him.
