69 miners trapped in NE China coalmine flooding

Sixty-nine miners were trapped in a flooding happening at a township-run coal mine in Jiaohe City, northeast China's Jilin Province, on Sunday morning, local sources said.

According to the sources, the 69 workers were working beneath the shaft of Tengda Coal Mine, a township-run coal production business with license, when the flooding occurred around 7 a.m., and have remained out of contact ever since then.

Rescue operation is being carried out in a tense manner.

Cause of the flooding is under investigation.
