EU official requests to investigate Chinese textile goods
font size

On April 24 Peter Mandelson of the EU Trade Commission said in Brussels, he would request the EU Trade Commission to entrust him the right for kicking off an investigation on the nine "Specially guaranteed" textile goods the EU imported from China so as to decide whether to exercise the "specially guaranteed" measures over these textile goods.

At the press conference held on the very day Peter Mandelson expressed, according to the indication from the statistics of the EU member-country customs, there witnessed a "big increase" of the textile goods imported from China in the first quarter of this year. Among them the imported quota of the nine categories of textile goods as set for "specially guaranteed" ones in the regulated measures to import from China has come up to the "pre-warning red-line".

Peter Mandelson said, the EU Trade Commission would carry out an investigation of no more than two months on the nine categories of textile goods. Should the investigation indicate that these textile goods have incurred a disturbance in the EU market the EU would kick off a mechanism for "Special protection" by setting a restriction on the imported amount of the textile-goods.

He expressed that the EU would make a consultation so soon as possible in this regard with China. He also said the investigation on the Chinese textile goods and clothing would not affect the normal development of the EU-China economic trade relations

As revealed, the nine categories of textile goods include: T-shirts, coats, men's trousers, overcoats, socks, lady's overcoats and brassiere and so on. The EU Commission said, there has witnessed an increase of 51 percent at the minimum and 534 percent at the maximum of the nine textile goods since the beginning of this year.
