    KMT chairman arrives in Nanjing

    A TV grab shows Chairman Lien Chan (L) of the Kuomintang (KMT) party and his wife wave to people upon arriving arrived in Nanjing in east China's Jiangsu Province at 16:40 Tuesday to begin an eight-day mainland visit. This is the first time the chairman of the KMT party has landed foot on the mainland in more than half a century.

    China, Egypt sign agreement on establishing Chinese university

    China and Egypt on April 24 signed an agreement on establishing the Egyptian Chinese University (ECU) in Cairo, the first Chinese university to be set up in the Middle East region.     Hailstones on the street in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province. Hailstorm hit the city on Monday, the largest hailstones were 30 millimeters in diameter.

    WWII veterans celebrate 60th anniversary of Elbe linkup

    The WWII veterans of the Elbe poise for photographers on April 25, 2005 in northern German town of Torgau during the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the first hand shaking of American and Soviet soldiers on a ruined bridge crossing the Elbe River in Torgau. The symbolic meeting of Allied troops advancing from the west and Soviet troops advancing from the east happened on April 25, 1945 marked the dawn of the end of World War II.

    China, Indonesia establish strategic partnership
