Jiangsu province becomes the bellwether in IPR protection

According to the white book of Intellectual Property Rights Protection Situation in Jiangsu Province 2004, the total amount of patent applications in Jiangsu province last year exceeded 20,000, reaching 23,532 cases for the first time. The sharp increase enabled Jiangsu to rank the third in the country with the total number of the cases doubling in the past three years.

Apart from the sharp increase of patent applications and handling, the application of trademarks in the province stood at 43,500, with the applications for famous trade marks topping 365 cases, among which 229 have been approved by the provincial famous trademarks.

The application for trademark and invention patents has increased by more than 30 percent each from last year. In 2004, Jiangsu province reported 12 renowned trademarks, bringing the total number of famous provincial trade marks to 39, ranking the third in China.
