Price of agricultural products up 6.4%

The price of China's agricultural products saw a 6.4 percent increase year-on-year in the first quarter of 2005, according to a survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics released Tuesday.

The survey, which covered 31,000 agricultural production units nationwide, says the prices of products in the planting, forestry, animal husbandry and fishing industries increased by 4.2 percent, 2.6 percent, 10 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively, during the January-March period of this year.

The price of wheat surged 9.4 percent; that of corn, 1.2 percent; rice, 13 percent; while the price of cotton dropped 22 percent, the survey says.
