Train, bus collision kills 8 in S. Africa

Eight people were killed and 60 seriously injured in a collision involving a bus and a goods train on Monday in South Africa's Limpopo Province, the SAPA news agency reported.

Limpopo police spokesman Ailwei Mushavhanamadi said while nobody on the train was hurt, five men and three women on the bus were killed. Some of the injured have been airlifted to hospitals and others were taken by ambulance.

Mushavhanamadi said it appeared that the driver of the bus did not stop and check if there was a train before crossing the railway line.

The SAPA also said on Monday that the death toll from a road accident Saturday near Pretoria has risen from five to seven. Two seriously injured passengers had died in hospital, following five deaths in a minibus taxi overturn, which happened while the drivertried to avoid hitting a truck traveling towards it in the wrong lane, the report said.
