A senior CPC discipline inspection official Tuesday warned cadres throughout China against infringing the public interests by polluting the environment.

"We will punish whoever causes major environmental pollution and ecological damage due to his misuse of authority or neglect of his responsibilities," Wu Guanzheng, secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said at a meeting in Beijing Tuesday.

"We must ensure the relevant laws and regulations be fully implemented and establish a long-standing mechanism to protect the public interests of enjoying a favorable environment," Wu added.
