Sino-Japanese tourism exchanges beneficial to both peoples
font size

Enhancing Sino-Japanese tourism exchanges is beneficial to both peoples, said Shao Qiwei, directorof China National Tourism Administration (CNTA).

He made these remarks here Thursday when meeting with Japanese tourism delegation, headed by Kimitaka Fujino, member of the houseof Councilors. He said tourism is the bridge of friendship, which can promote bilateral exchanges. He hoped the two peoples can visit each other's nation, which will not only enhance bilateral friendship and understanding, but also promote bilateral relations.

He said Japan is China's biggest inbound tourist source nation for many years. Last year, some 3.33 million Japanese tourists visited China. Meanwhile the number of Chinese tourists to Japan kept increasing. In the first quarter of 2005, the number reached 287,000, up 12 percent over the previous year. With splendid culture, ancient history, various natural resources and multiple ethnic groups, China has become the popular destination for Japanese tourists.

Shao said China is a safe tourist destination, which gained global recognition and ensured its rapid development in recent years. Chinese government will spend no efforts in guaranteeing world tourists' safety.

He said China and Japan are two friendly neighboring nations. Since the normalization of diplomatic relations 33 years ago, two nations achieved progress in bilateral relations.

Kimitaka said China is a big potential tourism market. After going back, he will let Japanese people know that China is safe for Japanese tourists.
