BOC successfully stops 26 crimes involving $8 mlnIn the first quarter of 2005, subsidiary banks of the Bank of China (BOC) successfully stopped 26 crimes, preventing over 70 million yuan (8.45 million US dollars) from being stolen and helping the police arrest 25 suspects, the bank announced Thursday. Twenty-one fraud cases involving 72.19 million yuan (8.7 million US dollars) were successfully prevented in branches of the BOC in South China's Guangdong Province and Fujian Province, northeast China's Liaoning Province and Beijing. Eight were related to counterfeit notes and involved 46.38 million yuan (5.6 million US dollars), eight were fake money deposits or foreign currency exchange fraud cases involving 4.36 million yuan (527 thousand US dollars), three were national debt voucher or bank book forgery, or falsely claiming national debt involving 20.7 million yuan (2.5 million US dollars), one case of savings transference forgery of 747,000 yuan (90.2 thousand US dollars) and one case on counterfeiting a letter of undertaking ofthe head office of the BOC. Two robberies involving 290,000 yuan (39.8 thousand US dollars)and three cases of bank card fabrication involving 76,000 yuan (9.2 thousand US dollars) were also prevented.
