A senior Chinese official emphasized the foodstuff and medicine safety across the country for the interest of the public in Beijing on Friday.

"The central government will strengthen the monitoring and administration of foodstuff and medicine making and selling by economic, juridical and necessary administrative means," said Wu Guanzheng, secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

He also said the central government will establish a long- standing mechanism to keep inferior food and medicine off the market.

"Producing and selling inferior food and medicine is murder," Wu said.
