Ten outstanding figures in independent innovation has been named "ten prominent figures in science news in 2004", an activities sponsored by 15 newspapers and news agencies including People's Daily, Science & Technology Daily and Xinhua News Agency.

The ten people are: Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Huang Boyun, grassroots scientist Shi Hanxiang, chief designer of "Shuguang 400A computer" Sun Ninghui, Vice president of CAS Li Jiayang, Managing Director of China Education and Research Network Wu Jianping, professor with University of Science and Technology of China Pan Jianwei, helicopter designer Wu Ximing, head of research team for "Godson I CPU" Hu Weiwu, female scientist Yang Jie and young scientist Zhong Faping.
