PLA Garrison Troops in HK opens barracks to HK youthThe Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Garrison Troops in Hong Kong opened its Stanley and two other military barracks to a number of Hong Kong schools and youth organizations Sunday at the request of Hong Kong people from various walks of life, especially young people. This is the first time that the PLA Garrison Troops' in Hong Kong opens its barracks exclusively to Hong Kong youth organizations and schools since the PLA garrison troops entered in Hong Kong seven years ago. Over 18,000 Hong Kong young people and school students visited the three barracks. Acting Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government Gao Siren, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong Yang Wenchang attended the barracks opening ceremony, accompanied by Wang Jitang and Liu Liangkai, commander and political commissar of the PLA Garrison Troops in Hong Kong. Part of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government officials and Hong Kong Legislative Council members also visited the military barracks at the invitation of the PLA Garrison troops in Hong Kong. At about 10:00 a.m., Hong Kong young people from 176 youth organizations and over 1,000 primary, middle schools and universities came to three military barracks to observe national flag raising ceremony, visit the national defense knowledge exhibition and watch shows of ships, plane and military arms. Visitors to the barracks also watch the emergency turning out drill, operation of arms, flag language performance by marine soldiers and other military activities. They also watched art performances given by soldiers. The excellent shows have won applause of visitors here and there. Donald Tsang said the PLA Garrison Troops might and civilized image and the officers and soldiers strong sense of patriotism set a good example for Hong Kong youth. This is the ninth opening activities arranged by the PLA Garrison Troops in Hong Kong and a total of 190,000 Hong Kong citizens have paid visits to the military barracks. The opening days have become an important opportunities for Hong Kong citizens to learn more about the garrison troops' training, work, study and lives in Hong Kong, which have enhanced understandings of the PLA Garrison Troops in Hong Kong by Hong Kong people from various walks of life. |
